2013 ESPY AWARDS
Wednesday night, the sports world celebrated some of the latest and greatest in the game at the 2013 ESPY Awards. The show was held in sunny Los Angeles at the Nokia Theatre L.A Live and brought out some of the best athletes to date. Of the many fan favorites, we kept our eyes on those who dressed to impress. Check out our recap of some of our favorite looks that hit the red carpet!
It’s a no-brainer that Miami Heat’s star athlete, Lebron James, and fiancée Savannah Brinson hailed at the top of everyone’s best dressed list at this year’s ETSYs. The couple looked quite regal, “King James” in a Waraire Boswell oxblood suit and his lady in a jaw-dropping textured gown by Michael Costello. And by the looks of their on-point look, we know they’re surely going to go all out at their upcoming wedding. And to top it all of, James won 3 ESPY awards, including Male Athlete of the Year, so it’s no wonder why he brought out the big style guns.
Fellow teammate, Dwight Howard, and the lovely Gabrielle Union also impressed. While he went with a black lux-looking suit, she killed it in an all-black Marc Bouwer dress and edgy fishtail braid.
Of the fellas, Los Angeles Clippers’ DeAndre Jordan ranked in as one of our faves, in a summer-appropriate and well put together chambray suit with chocolate-colored tie and hazelnut dress shoes. Minnesota Vikings tailback Adrian Peterson, who took home 2 awards, looked suave as well in olive and ivory linen. Mad Men actor Jon Hamm took some unconventional red carpet photos but still looked sharp in his semi-shiny black suit. NFL Players Victor Cruz & Colin Kaepernick looked patriotic backstage. Though Kaepernick won the Best Breakthrough Athlete award, he missed it with his choice of footwear. If it was up to us, we would’ve had Kaepernick wear a different shoe option, preferably something that is not the same mismatched shade of red. Comedian Bill Bellamy and NBA pro Ray Allen both wore cool shades and navy blue suits, while Reggie Bush looked dapper alongside his fiancée, Lilit Avagyan, in a simplistic black suit and tie.
Jewel tones were an obvious fave among the ladies at this year’s ETSY awards. Actress Malin Akerman looked beautiful in a blue dress with plunging neckline and strappy sandals. Lake Bell stayed simple in a strapless lace dress in emerald, which was a perfect color choice for the actress who will be co-starring in the baseball film Million Dollar Arm alongside Jon Hamm.
In most cases when there’s 2 stars wearing the same look on the red carpet, it’s a cut-throat battle of who wore it best. And even though cancer survivor & Good Morning America news anchor Robin Roberts and Australian dancer Peta Murgatroyd both showed up wearing the same red asymmetrical gown, luckily they both equally rocked it. And while NFL legend Jim Brown looked his usual tough self in a candid shot down the red carpet, his wife Monique Brown look beautiful on his arm, dazzling onlookers in a canary yellow gown. Sports Illustrated babe Chrissy Teigan also sported a bright yellow look, while Leila Ali rocked a summer glow in a purple halter gown.
Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps and girlfriend Win McMurry were probably the most plain looking couple of the night. Don’t get us wrong, they look good. But they could’ve done a whole lot better.
Someone who brought the wow factor was supermodel Marisa Miller. The blonde vixen surely turned some heads in this revealing sheer-striped dress. She disappointed with the less than appealing hair, but her overall look is undeniably sexy.
Selena Gomez dazzled in a lacy mini dress and sparkling jewel accents.
On the shiny side of things, ladies like Katherine Webb and “Dancing with the Stars” pro Cheryl Burke sparkled in sequins, while Paula Patton shined in a beaded cocktail dress and Olympian gymnast McKayla Maroney commanded attention in a metallic gold gown.
When it comes to these types of affairs, the saying “less is more” is something that many celebs take heed to. And while there were many little black dresses at this year’s ETSYs, Olympic-winning gymnast Gabby Douglas took the cake of best LBD for the night. While she went for a more grown up look than usual, fellow USA gymnast Kyla Ross looked amazing as well in a sequin mini dress with ankle strap heels. Gold-winning Olympic soccer champ Hope Solo won us over in a sporty black and white dress, while Tara Lipinski and Melissa Rycroft took a more lady-like approach in lace. Another fave of ours was race car driver Danica Patrick’s gold-accented mini dress. It was a bit on the simple side, but she still looked gorgeous–but then again, when doesn’t she?
So that’s our list of red carpet favorites at the 2013 ETSY Awards! Which celebs are on the top of your best dressed list?
